ℹ️ How it works

Hi, thanks for checking out Canberra Bike Feedback!

This is a project that aims to make it easier to explore how bicycles can travel in the ACT for personal interest, journey planning, or advocacy purposes. Data obtained from ACT Government Open Data sources can be used to populate a map.

After you've loaded data by clicking Load layers, you can click on a point on a path to either: give feedback on that location, look at the location in Google Maps and look at the location in Google StreetView.

When you press the Feedback button after clicking a point on a path, you can see the location as expressed in the original data source as well as in coordinates. You can give a thumbs up or thumbs down rating, provide a reason for that rating, leave a comment and attach photos. Note: to keep costs low, attaching photos only enables you to include those photos in the downloadable feedback report - we do not receive or retain those photos in the feedback database.

To download your feedback report, simply press the Download my feedback report button on the top toolbar. A download containing a map image of the location of your feedback, your rating and comments will be available. You can use this pdf as part of your communications with advocacy organisations or with your elected representatives.

When you click submit, your feedback goes to a database operated by the site owner. This database is kept to enable the site admin to populate a map of their own with all feedback provided. We aim to provide this map, or other information derived from the feedback database to site visitors at a later date. You can use a Name (or Pseudonym!) if you like, this allows us to link together feedback from the same person.

FAQ:

Where does this data come from?
https://actmapi-actgov.opendata.arcgis.com

How is this useful?
Good question! At this point the site has three interesting functions:

  1. You can look at the coverage of shared paths (pedestrian and cyclist) and on road cycle lanes - maybe there's a gap you want to see filled. Send an email about it!
  2. You can check out what a route looks like using the Google Maps and Street View functionality - perhaps you're unsure of what you'd encounter riding the route and need some peace of mind that you're not going to be facing a tricky obstacle.
  3. You can provide feedback on various points and then collate that feedback with the handy download tool, packaged and ready to send off to someone who can action it.

I have a suggestion, what can I do?
At the moment, write it down. I haven't set up an email address for this purpose yet - coming soon!

Who runs this?
This is a personal project of a Canberra cyclist who has an interest in advocacy and using technology to assist in making our voice heard.

Privacy:

We collect your rating, comment, and an optional pseudonym. We do not collect email addresses, IP addresses, or photos. All feedback is stored in a database hosted on Railway. You can request deletion of your feedback by contacting linuxmintcamera@gmail.com.
